    Choosing like a cheapskate

I read your article today "choosing like cheapskate".
I admit that I am not the sharpest tool in the shed but can you help me understand why the following funds may not be a good choice versus some expense rate of .50?
    FBRVX     10 yr av   17.33    exp 1.38
    OSTFX       "            15.62          1.26
    LLPFX        "            12                .90

I am sure that I am missing something in these numbers.

    Thanks,
    P Miller

     Parker,

The column was about probabilities. The funds you mentioned all have good track records because they are the portion of the high expense sample group that has higher performance. The column was about there being a smaller proportion of superior funds in a high expense sample. The column did NOT say finding superior performance funds was impossible if the expenses were high. It just said the odds of finding a superior fund were worse.
