    Charitable Gift Funds

Concerning your recent article on gift funds:  we are in our mid-40's and give about $9K in donations each year.  We do not invest in any individual stocks, primarily in index funds and municipal bond ladders - mostly based on your couch potato portolios.  Our donations typically come mostly from what we save from our paychecks.   It doesn't seem we meet many of the critiera you mentioned in your article (e.g., having appreciated securities, we're not retired and so can't transfer in IRA assets, etc.).  Is there any payoff for us consider opening a Charitable Gift fund - and why?  Thank you.

I doubt if there is a major advantage for you in having a Charitable Gift Fund. The most likely people to benefit are retirees with limited itemized deductions (no home mortgage, live in a no income tax state, etc.) and owning highly appreciated securities.
