Scott,
At 62 I actively participate in my own investments locally, along with my brother and sister on my mother's substantial portfolio held with Merrill-Lynch out of state. I only do mutual funds while my mother's investments are are about 30% stocks, 20% Funds, and 50% municipal bonds.
My concern is in the stocks. Over the past four years we have watched some large gains evaporate. Some have never done well out of the gate and are worth about half their orginal value. I have voiced the use of Stop Loss Orders more than once. I feel this would have left the equities in much better shape than what we have to look forward to now.
Is there a tried and true approach to using this technique? I have the time to devote to it.
Thanks, Kwink
